October Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events 2025
Saturday, October 4, 2025, 9am-11am; SafeFUR Homes: Family safety is important for everyone – including pets! We are kicking off DVAM with our annual SafeFUR Homes Event to raise awareness about the link between animal abuse and domestic abuse AND to raise funds to support the lifesaving services of The Women’s Community. This event will be held at Oak Island Park, 500 River Road, Wausau.
Saturday October 4, 2025, 9pm-12am: Get Loud! Live Music Event: Join us for our 3rd annual Get Loud! event to raise awareness around the topic of domestic violence in our community. We are partnering with Intermission Bar here in Wausau to host a local band called Through Crimson. This event is a way for The Women’s Community to reach an alternative demographic of people through empowering music, collective solidarity and a common goal to eradicate domestic violence in our community. We will be doing raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle. We will also have advocates on site to help anyone in need, give information, and offer services and support. Any donations received will go to life saving services at The Women’s Community. This event will be held at Intermission Bar, 325 N 4th St, Wausau, WI.
Wednesday, October 8, 2025, 11am-1pm: The Clothesline Project and Messages of Hope: Clothesline Project and Messages of Hope, 11am-1pm: The Clothesline Project is a visual display of resilience, healing, and hope for individuals and communities impacted by interpersonal violence and abuse. The Clothesline Project and Message of Hope will be displayed near the Union at UW-Stevens Point at Wausau, 518 S 7th Ave., Wausau.
Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 11am-1pm: Understanding Amish and Mennonite Culture & Unique Barriers for Domestic Violence Victims: A cultural awareness training designed for system and community professionals to gain knowledge and skills to relate effectively with Amish and Plain Mennonite communities. Topics include: history, prevalence, diversity, and structure of the Amish and Plain Mennonites. This webinar will help prepare participants to be culturally informed while working with domestic violence victims. Registration $10, Registration with CEU’s $15. Thursday, October 16, 2025; Purple Thursday: Join us in wearing purple to support, pay tribute, and honor friends, family and community members who have experienced domestic violence. Gather your friends, coworkers or yourself and post a photo in your purple gear and don’t forget to tag us at @womenscommunity!
Thursday, October 23, 2025, 5:30pm-7pm; Awards Ceremony: Join The Women’s Community and the Marathon County Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Intervention Team as we recognize outstanding community members for their dedication to supporting survivors of domestic violence. This event is located at Sconni’s Alehouse & Eatery, 1239 Schofield Ave, Schofield.
Monday, October 27, 2025, 6:30pm-7pm; Book Discussion & Author Meet and Greet:
Join us at The Story Cellar to discuss, Building with Dust and Ashes: Learn about Nationwide and PA Dutch Speaking Mennonites. A conservative Mennonite teenager is shunned and knows nothing about the world’s dangers outside her sheltered Mennonite community. While looking for something familiar, she makes contact with an ex-Amish man. Vulnerable and scared, she thinks this is someone she can trust and find safety with. Wednesday, October 29, 2025, 9am-1pm; Clothesline Project and Messages of Hope: The Clothesline Project is a visual display of resilience, healing, and hope for individuals and communities impacted by interpersonal violence and abuse. The Clothesline Project will be displayed at North Central Technical College, 1000 W. Campus Drive, Wausau, WI 54401 from 9:00am-1:00pm.
Throughout October 2025; Social Media Campaign “How I Show up for Survivors”: Share how you show up for survivors this DVAM to spread awareness and show all the ways we can support survivors as professionals and individuals! Post a photo or video of yourself, friends, family, or coworkers and share how you stand with survivors and tag us at @womenscommunity and include #WithSurvivors.
