We Step Into the Light

March 4, 2022 @ 8:00 am - March 31, 2022 @ 11:30 pm

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and we are excited to announce an opportunity for our community to participate in an art exhibit to support survivors of sexual violence, interpersonal violence, or stalking.  We Step Into the Light is an art exhibit that seeks to inspire creativity that honors the healing process after an experience with sexual assault, relationship or gender based violence, or stalking.  The organizers of the exhibit are actively seeking volunteer artists and muses.  A Muse: anyone who has experienced sexual assault, relationship or gender based violence, or stalking.

For this event, artists are paired with survivors who act as a muse for the art created; a piece that will celebrate the survivor. The piece should focus on the ambition, goals, and passions of the survivor rather than on their assault. Through a series of interactions, the artist will be inspired by learning about the survivor and the piece will begin to take form.

The finished pieces are then gifted to the survivor as a forever reminder of their participation, and more importantly, the beautiful and meaningful life they lead. Through this project, the hope is to offer a reminder of the strength, beauty and power that we all possess, even in the darkest of times.  The final art pieces will be on display on campus in April. More details to follow on the exhibit in the coming weeks.

We need artists and muses between now and March 31.
