November 2023

The Women’s Community is grateful for the generous support of an Eagle Scout Project that created an outdoor cooking and eating area at our facility.

Marcos Cruz-Bloom, a Boy Scout from Troop 458, out of Marathon, WI, designed an Eagle Scout project to create an outdoor cooking, food prep and eating area on The Women’s Community patio.  The patio will be used to help facilitate The Women’s Community client support group meetings outside (spring through fall), providing a comfortable space for clients to gather, share a meal, converse and facilitate healing.

The Home Depot Foundation donated:

  • leveling sand and seam sealers for the concrete pavers in our patio
  • decorative cinder block and a polished granite countertop for a food prep area
  • staff time to assist Scouts with building the food prep area
  • a new gas grill
  • 2 retractable sun shades
  • lumber and other materials for 2 large tables, 4 benches and 3 decorative planters
  • staff time to assist Scouts with building the tables, benches and planters

The Wausau Police Benevolent Association generously gave a $1,000 donation to The Women’s Community to support this project. The funding will be designated to provide food and supplies for our support groups.

Boy Scout Troop 458:

  • used leveling sand to flatten some sunken concrete pavers in the patio
  • used seam sealer between the pavers to prevent future weeds
  • worked with staff at Home Depot to build two large tables, 4 benches and 3 decorative flower pots
  • worked with Home Depot staff onsite at The Women’s Community to build a decorative cinder block and polished granite countertop food prep area

The Women’s Community is very appreciative of the support of the Home Depot Foundation, the Wausau Police Benevolent Association, Scout Marcos Cruz-Bloom and Boy Scout Troop 458.

Staff at The Home Depot assisted Marcos in leading Scouts from Troop 458 in building two large picnic tables, 4 benches and 3 decorative flower pots.
