SUMMARY:Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) 2022
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 1\, 2022; Spotting Abuse in Patients – Tools for Providers: Attendees of the Fall Medical Student Conference will learn about the warning signs of interpersonal violence\, domestic violence\, elder abuse\, and sexual assault and learn skills on starting conversations surrounding suspected abuse and community resources available to victims. This presentation will be held at Northcentral Technical College\, 1000 W Campus Drive\, Wausau\, 8am-4pm. \nSaturday\, October 1\, 2022; SafeFUR Homes: Family safety is important for everyone – including pets! We are kicking off our 2nd Annual SafeFUR Homes Event to raise awareness about the link between animal abuse and domestic abuse AND to raise funds to support the lifesaving services of The Women’s Community. This event will be held at Oak Island Park\, 500 River Road\, Wausau\, from 9-11am. \nWednesday\, October 12\, 2022; Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day: A nationally recognized day aims to reach members of the health care and advocacy communities to offer education about the critical importance of universal education to promote healthy relationships\, address the health impact of abuse and offer warm referrals to domestic violence advocates. To organize an event in your health care center\, contact health@futureswithoutviolence.org and include “HCADV Day” in the subject line. \nFriday\, October 14\, 2022; Equality in Relationships for Women: Audience participants will discuss how we identify and practice components of equity in our connections; and learn about what makes healthy relationships in all facets of life; as partners\, friends\, coworkers\, and family\, as well as recognizing unhealthy and abusive behaviors in relationships. Post photos of yourself in your purple gear and a message of support for survivors using #PurpleThursday and #DVAM2022 – and don’t forget to tag us at @womenscommunity \nFriday\, October 21\, 2022; Get Loud! Live Music Event: Join The Women’s Community as we work to Break the Silence around Domestic Violence with a live music event featuring local band Through Crimson! This event will be held at Cruisin 1724\, 1724 Merrill Avenue\, Wausau\, at 8pm. Your $5 suggested donation will be used to provide services and support to victims of domestic violence\, sexual assault\, human trafficking\, and stalking\, and will help ensure that no victim has to suffer in silence! \nTuesday\, October 25\, 2022; Domestic Violence in Our Community – Facts & Fiction Presentation: Join the Marathon County Domestic Abuse Intervention Team (MCDAIT) for a community presentation on the dynamics of domestic violence and common misconceptions. Hear from professionals who are committed to working together to bring awareness to domestic violence and implement and improve solutions for victims in our community. The event will be located at the Marathon County Public Library in Wausau\, at 5:30pm. This event is not sponsored by the MCPL.
