SUMMARY:World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
DESCRIPTION:Did you know human trafficking happens in Wisconsin?\n \nJuly 30th is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking is the use of violence\, fraud or coercion to force someone to perform labor or commercial sex acts. Started by the United Nations\, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons helps raise awareness about human trafficking around the world. But\, did you know human trafficking is a major problem even here in Wisconsin?\nMany are surprised to hear that human trafficking happens close to home. No Wisconsin community is immune to the presence of human trafficking.\nThere is a strong connection between domestic abuse and human trafficking. Because domestic abuse shelters are often the only crisis housing available for women in many Wisconsin communities\, The Women’s Community’s programs regularly serve victims of trafficking. \nThe Women’s Community continues to advocate for changes in law and policy to better protect survivors and to better address human trafficking.

This is a documentary movie about the attacks young women suffer on college campuses. This movie takes an in-depth look at the crimes\, the lack of punishment or police involvement. Every year\, women who attend college move away from home. These young women have little to no experience in the world at large. Some of them are brutally attacked on the campus where they live.  A discussion led by representatives from UWMC\, The Women’s Community\, and local law enforcement will follow the screenings.  Free and open to the public. \nFor more information about these events\, please contact Jessica at The Women’s Community 715-842-5663 or JessicaATwomenscommunity.org  (replace AT with @)
