Wednesday, April 27, 2016, Denim DayA symbolic gesture –Denim Day is an international protest responding to the Italian Supreme Court’s overruling of a rape conviction in 1999.  Although the assailant had been found guilty at trial, the Supreme Court argued that because jeans are difficult to remove, the assailant couldn’t have done so without the victim’s help.  Sounds outrageous, yet all over the world, women and men who are victims of sexual assault continue to be disbelieved and accused of causing the assault due to their behavior… or fashion sense.  Community members, schools, and companies are encouraged to wear jeans on this day as it is also Administrative Professionals Day in support of survivors and bringing awareness to the issue.  Denim Survivor Display 11:00am–1:00pm University Wisconsin Marathon County Campus, 518 S. 7th Ave, Wausau, WI, Union

Wednesday, April 27, 2016, Film Screening:  The film,“The Hunting Ground” will be screened at 6:30pm, University Wisconsin Marathon County Campus, 518 S. 7th Ave., Wausau, Main Building Theatre. This is a documentary movie about the attacks young women suffer on college campuses. This movie takes an in-depth look at the crimes, the lack of punishment or police involvement. Every year, women who attend college move away from home. These young women have little to no experience in the world at large. Some of them are brutally attacked on the campus where they live.  A discussion led by representatives from UWMC, The Women’s Community, and local law enforcement will follow the screenings.  Free and open to the public.
